Of course my bosses had counterparts in every country -including the USA.. Two CIA agents from Langley, Virgina were given a tour to the 'Eastern parts' of the world. One of my British bosses accompanied them on the fact-finding mission for a few days… When their conversations changed to the need of an 'experienced hand in undercover ops' my boss promptly introduced my name and the quality of my work to them…

A few years later, I found myself working alongside the American government in its "mission to fight Islamic terrorism".

Upon my return to the UK, I found that the LTTE had now taken to the World Wide Web. To monitor them, I decided to invest in a sturdy PC and in August 2000 I logged on to the net.

It was then that I noticed that the web was swarming with rebel and terrorist groups –both regional and international. The LTTE and al-Qaeda were the minority …There was the big league: The IRA, PKK, Chechens, Kashmiri groups and most of all, the Hamas…. The MI6 would find my Web based efforts useful…

The MI6 "Military Intelligence-section six" which is now officially called the Secret Intelligence Service (SIS), is the agency responsible for overseas intelligence operations for the British government. The agency was rumored to have an unofficial annual budget exceeding £340 million and the mysterious MI6 chief is simply known as "C" by the agency's custom. The MI6 HQ carried highly sophisticated safety paraphernalia such as extensive CC TV systems and bomb-proof walls and windows. And the HQ building has triple-glazed windows.

A few weeks elapsed…

On September 15th , 2000, torrential rains caused 'some flooding' in parts of southern England..

But the weather improved quickly and on September 20, the British met office predicted a '15C (degrees) day ahead' for London.

On September 20, 2000, I worked from my home….The same day the 50 plus night shift staff in the MI6 HQ building got on with their duties as usual with no clue of what awaited them as the night approached.

The night fell…suddenly at 9.55 pm, two 'loud-bang' explosions were heard from the MI6 Vauxhall Cross HQ building's direction.

A Londoner, Sridharan Balakrishnan was working at a petrol station behind the MI6 HQ building on the Albert Embankment. He saw smoke pouring from its roof. "The bangs were very loud and hurt my ears.

Then I saw smoke coming from the MI6 building" Balakrishnan was to tell the London's CNN TV crew later.

Like all the other Britons, 23 yrs old Balakrishnan had never expected to be an eyewitness to the attack on the MI6 Vauxhall Cross HQ buildings, which was housed in the most heavily guarded spot in the city of London. The HQ itself was fortified with highly sophisticated safety paraphernalia such as extensive CC TV systems and bomb-proof walls and windows.

How would anyone sneak a bomb or a mobile C4 explosion device into such a heavily guarded compound?

Everyone was puzzled. The answer came a few hours later…
No less than a rocket launcher was used to fire two Russian-built RPG MK 22 anti-tank weapons from a mere 200 meters away from the MI6 building!

Suddenly, a frightful question ran across our minds: Was it the IRA, the Real IRA or, any other unknown splinter group?
